Santa Clarita, CA, March 27, 2014—AMG & Associates, Inc. continues to prove itself a champion among its competitors with the company’s recently winning four multi-million dollar contracts to serve as General Contractor on major projects that will benefit residents across the Greater Los Angeles region.

Winning a $3.411 million contract, AMG has been named the General Contractor for the renovations of an existing facility owned by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, which will soon become the Discovery Science Center Los Angeles (DSCLA). The DSCLA is a sister project of the Discovery Science Center (DSC) in Orange County and is located at Hansen Dam Recreation Center, 11800 West Foothill Boulevard in Pacoima, CA. The first major museum in the San Fernando Valley, DSCLA builds on the DSC’s mission to educate and inspire young people through science-based exhibits and programs that focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) proficiency; environmental stewardship; early learning; and healthy living. It is anticipated that DSCLA will serve 180,000 visitors; 20,000 students on field trips; and 75,000 students through offsite outreach programs in its first year and create more than 100 full- and part-time jobs.

AMG is also the General Contractor for the construction of The Pacoima Entrepreneur Center, a facility designed to be a center for local community service and business training. Funded by the Valley Economic Development Center, this $3.416 million project is located at 13420 Van Nuys Boulevard in Pacoima, CA, and comprises three stories; 13,895 sq. ft.; new landscaping; and convenient parking.

The Compton Community College District awarded AMG a $9.608 million contract to be the General Contractor for the demolition of the District’s Allied Health Building and the construction of a brand new facility. The building will serve the needs of the El Camino College Compton Center community and is located at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard, Compton, CA, at the northwest end of the school’s campus.

Lennox Middle School District recently awarded AMG a $1.907 million contract for the Lennox Middle School Sound Attenuation Project in Lennox, CA. AMG serves as General Contractor for hazardous material removal, acoustical window and door assemblies, and the building of a sound attenuation wall on school grounds.

“We proudly embrace these new opportunities to serve the broader Los Angeles region,” says Albert Giacomazzi, AMG’s President and CEO. “It’s very gratifying to play a critical role in projects that provide such enduring benefits—from the aesthetic and environmental enhancements they offer to the outstanding community resources they will continue to be for generations.”

AMG’s ability to take on new challenges in seemingly record time and accomplish them like champions is due in no small part to the strength of its leadership team, which includes former Olympian Tryggvi Helgason, AMG’s Manager of Procurement. A member of Iceland’s 1984 Olympic Swim Team, Helgason found the ideal marriage of his passions for swimming, construction, and beautiful weather at AMG. Helgason’s drive to compete and win has never wavered, and he is currently ranked among the Top 10 internationally in three Masters Swimming events—100m Butterfly Men Short Course, 200m Breaststroke Men Short Course, and 200m Breaststroke Men Long Course. Helgason works out daily with U.S. Masters Swimming teammate Giacomazzi at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, another of AMG’s landmark projects. “Swimming in the 1984 Olympics is what brought me to Southern California. I fell in love with the warm, sunny weather and decided to make it my home,” Helgason says. “And swimming would eventually lead me to AMG as well. I met Albert while he was working out at the pool, and he later offered me a position to join his award-winning team.”

“Tryggvi’s dedication and motivation to succeed are the perfect match for the AMG team and our mission,” Giacomazzi adds. “It’s truly been a win-win situation for all of us.”
