In the 1960s, the Saugus Rollerama was the hottest spot in town — a place where locals could lace up, hit the hardwood, and groove under the lights. Built on land owned by Robert Newhall Chesebrough and dreamed up by two Safeway employees, Jim Walker and Jim Santo, Rollerama wasn’t just a rink — it was the heartbeat of early Santa Clarita. Rollerama even became a local landmark for families and friends throughout the decade. (SCVHistory.com)

Fast-forward to the 1980s, when Skate-N-Place took center floor. Teenagers flocked there every weekend, spinning and sliding to the beat while the DJ dropped the decade’s biggest hits. Theme nights, dance-offs, and speed-skate races made it the ultimate hangout.  It was a place where friendships were formed and everyone knew how to “boogie backward.” When the doors closed in the late ’80s, it felt like the wheels stopped turning on an unforgettable era.

Now, that spirit is rolling back.

AMG & Associates, Inc., in partnership with the City of Santa Clarita, is building The Rink Sports Pavilion.  A modern, climate-controlled recreation center that pays homage to Rollerama and Skate-N-Place while ushering in a new chapter of community fun. The 12,000-square-foot facility will feature roller skating, basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and more.  They are reviving the energy by bringing music, and connection that made skating special in the first place. So get ready to dust off those skates, grab your crew, and get ready to roll bounce into Santa Clarita’s next great chapter.

Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!
