San Fernando Valley dropout prevention and gang intervention program opens Job Training & Opportunity Center!

Communities in Schools of the San Fernando Valley & Greater Los Angeles will conduct a Grand Opening ceremony of its Job Training & Opportunity Center on October 22nd!

Pacoima, CA (Sept. 14, 2012) – Since 1994, Communities In Schools of the San Fernando Valley & Greater Los Angeles has provided a wide range of programs throughout Los Angeles to help over 12,000 highly at-risk youth stay in school, out of gangs and away from violence.

CIS will have a grand opening ceremony for their new Job Training & Opportunity Center which is designed to house programs to help youth and young adults receive job training and other educational services. Los Angeles County Probation will share the facility with CIS. This unique public/private collaboration will enable the Probation & CIS team to serve a targeted population of probationary youth and their families throughout the San Fernando Valley. The Center has been a dream since 2001 when CIS first realized the positive impact that having a job had on helping youth continue their education and avoid violence. This new 5,000 square foot facility will enhance the ability of Probation and CIS to deliver coordinated and comprehensive career development and life stabilizing social services to youth and families throughout our communities. The Center is located on the County of Los Angeles Fire Department Facility in Pacoima.

The Center’s construction is funded by a partnership between the County of Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and the U. S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administered by the Community Development Department of the City of Los Angeles.

“All good things are worth waiting for and although it took a while to get here, the time has finally come to build a facility that will bring a new quality of life to the Northeast San Fernando Valley.” said CIS Executive Director William “Blinky” Rodriguez.

“The Center demonstrates clearly that there is a role for everyone to play in helping youth find jobs and empowering them to participate in the American Dream”. Said CIS President Robert Arias, MSW, MPA

Members of the media are invited to attend.
