The City of Sierra Madre has awarded a $10.5 million contract to AMG & Associates, Inc., headquartered in Santa Clarita, CA for the highly anticipated Library Meaningful Improvement Project.

Albert Giacomazzi, President of AMG Associates, expressed gratitude to the city as well as the AMG team. “I’m incredibly proud of our staff for their hard work and diligence on this project, and we’re very grateful to the City of Sierra Madre for the opportunity to work together to revitalize the library. Libraries are an integral art of any community and can have a transformative impact by connecting people to information, and people to people,” Giacomazzi said.

The project is funded by a combination of grants, including $10 million from the California State Library and Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The improvements will modernize the Sierra Madre Public Library, addressing long-overdue structural upgrades and expanding community spaces.

Key Project Highlights:

  • ADA & Seismic Upgrades: Critical structural improvements to ensure safety and accessibility for all community members.
  • Library Expansion: A 5,000 square foot addition, creating more space for library services and outdoor community areas.
  • Environmental Upgrades: The project includes improved green space, window replacement, fire suppression equipment, and HVAC repairs.
  • Asbestos Abatement: Ensuring the safety and longevity of the library building.

The Library, originally constructed in 1955, has long exceeded its expected lifespan without significant renovations. This improvement project is a crucial step forward in bringing the facility up to modern standards and meeting the needs of Sierra Madre’s growing community. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Library Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Library, and the support of Assembly Member Chris Holden, the project has secured the necessary funding.

At the groundbreaking event on September 17, City Manager Jose Reynoso expressed gratitude to many supporters and stated, "Thank you all for being part of this journey and for your dedication to ensuring that the library continues to be a Cornerstone of our community today we take a giant step towards building a brighter future for our library and for all those who call this community home.”

The Library Meaningful Improvement Project is slated for completion by March 31, 2026, with design services provided by TSK Architects. AMG & Associates looks forward to collaborating with the City of Sierra Madre to bring this transformative vision to life.
